One evening, while Nola and her grandmother are mending an old lamp, Fufu the paper bird arrives with a letter whose address the rain has washed away. Nola sets off with Fufu in a paper boat for the cloud post office. She spots a moon-shaped window drawn on the letter, a warm lamp reveals a hidden mark, and she lights small lamps one by one to guide the boat through a grey cloud. The letter reaches Mimo, the cloud gardener, and Nola chooses to go home, where Grandma’s lamp is still glowing.
